Spring football coming to Washington-Grizzly Stadium

Spring football coming to Washington-Grizzly Stadium

The Missoula Phoenix are bringing semi-pro football back onto the field at Washington-Grizzly Stadium as a recently renamed team of the Rocky Mountain Football League. For the past two seasons, the Missoula RMFL franchise was called the Raptors and have won the last two Northern Division Championships.

The majority of the Phoenix home games will be played this spring in The University of Montana’s Washington-Grizzly Stadium through an agreement recently reached between UM officials and the Missoula Phoenix. Details and potential dates are still being worked on with the goal of playing all Phoenix home games at the venue.

The Phoenix roster lists several players who are no strangers to the stadium, as they are former Montana Grizzly players. They include WR Dave Garza, TE Ja’Ton Simpson, and Punter Mark Spencer. Former Griz DE Ciche Pitcher will also be an assistant coach for the Phoenix .

“We are working toward a mutually beneficial situation for both the University and our organization.” said John Velk, legal counsel for the Phoenix. “This provides us the opportunity to keep moving the organization forward and will be of great benefit for our fans and our sponsors. Having the use of the stadium is a great boost not only to our football team, but also to the other teams in Montana and the RMFL as a whole.”

More details will be released as they become available. Any questions should be directed to Director of Football Operations Todd Mackey.
